Blogs vs. Newspaper/Magazine Articles: 10 Differences

The similarities are obvious, but the difference may be harder to spot. Compared to newspapers and magazines, blogs and blog posts are fairly new. Web content has been getting attention for less than 20 years and blogging is still unfamiliar to many people who have been reading newspapers and magazines for decades.  While many popular newspapers and magazine have online formats, and some even feature blogs, it is important to know the differences between the Medias used to get information to the public. 1) Informality

“Pay attention folks, this is something you’re going to want to hear.”

Generally that’s not the type of sentence you would see opening a newspaper or magazine article is it? When writing blogs the writer is appealing directly to you, his reader. Whereas newspaper writing is a more formal telling of facts generally told in the 2nd or third person, with no mention of “you”, “I” or “us”. What do musicians, athletes, celebrities, doctors, fashion designers, and stay at home moms all have in common? They all have blogs. Whether you are starting a blog for learning, educating, or just for fun, here are five hot tips to help your learning process.

1) Pick Niche

Authority is like a chair; it needs legs to stand up.

There are thousands of blogs covering a variety of subjects such as business, fashion, music, news, etc… While some bloggers may look to the extreme or unusual topics to gain instant attention for their blog, it’s best for a beginner to pick a subject that you’re extremely passionate or knowledgeable about.  Your niche in the blogging community may be a common or popularly discussed topic, but when you add your knowledge and a fresh perspective you still have the potential for success.

2) Develop baseline of posts

It’s a mistake to view your blog as a kite that is free to blow as the wind takes it.

Before launching your new blog pick your brain for topics that relate to your particular niche. If you have trouble coming up with at least 30 related topics you may want to do some more research to find a niche you’re more familiar or comfortable with. After you have your topics decided, write about a dozen posts to fill up your blog right away and so you have some prepared for a hectic week in the future.
