Perfectionism In Posting Could Next To Nothing
Posting new blog post on your blog could be difficult if you are tangled on posting high quality standards that you set on posting a new blog post. Most especially when you only have a limited time on your blogging business.
There’s no problem on being a perfectionist in posting a blog post on your blog if you can provide all of your time on blogging. I have explained that on my previous post “Self Discipline”. But if you only have limited time on blogging, you should spend all of your blogging time more wisely to do all you need to do.
Posting blog post
Posting a blog post is the cycle that a blogger should do in order to sustain the popularity and readers on his blog. Have you ever seen a newspaper that never updates daily? Of course there is no such newspaper like that. And your blog posts are like news articles that should be updated in the most convenient time that you have.
In blog posting, we should also provide the most detailed articles that we can to make our readers read more often to our blog. It’s much better if we can make them subscribe to our blog to get our latest updates. Blog subscription is different on newspaper subscription.
If you make a newspaper subscription, you will need to pay on a daily, weekly or monthly basis for delivering the newspaper to you. But if you subscribe on a blog, you don’t need to pay for anything. You can read all the latest articles on a blog absolutely free.
So if you have blog subscribers or readers, you will need to update your blog more consistently in order to keep them to your subscribers list. And if you want to save your blogging business, you don’t need to have a blog post that is perfect. For having a perfect post will drain a lot of time that you should be spending on other things. An average post is enough in order to keep your blog flowing.
3 things that you must be consistent on blogging:
Posting Consistency - There are no standard frequency on posting new blog entry to your blog. But it shouldn’t be that very long. I couldn’t say how long is the longest time that you should update your blog because I update my blog frequently 1 to 2 days. And I think that is the most standard on keeping your blog updated.
I saw many blogs that updates within a week, but most of them are updating 2 to 4 days.
Topic Consistency - A blog topic could be hard to maintain especially when there are so many distractions around us. One of those distraction is popular blog. If you are blogging about something else and saw a blog on a different topic gains more popularity, you then discouraged to continue what you are blogging about.
In this case, just think about the benefit of your readers. Your readers are very different on the readers that that popular blog have. If you change your blog topic into something else, what would be the effect on it to your readers? Of course you cannot say what could might happen. Are you willing to risk those readers if you are going to change your topic?
Your passion on writing on about something is the main key for having consistency on your topic. When you have passion on the topic that you write about, you can face all the distractions and temptations of changing your topic into something else.
Task Consistency - There are so many task to be done as a blogger. But let me narrow them into three; Socializing, blog posting and technical stuff. These three may be not applicable for everyone, I’m only sharing this because these three works best for me in maintaining my blog status.
Socializing - Because it is the most effective way on marketing your blog. There are so many social networking site that you can use in socializing. And using that is one of the major task of a blogger in order to get new readers to your blog.
These sites can give a great impact on your blog traffic if you only know how to use them effectively. That’s why this one takes an average part of pie in your blogging time, studying how to use it effectively.
Blog posting - Just like what I have discussed earlier, blog posting is one major task of a blogger. It also takes an average part of pie in your blogging time.
Technical stuff - This includes designing, managing ads running and troubleshooting on errors on your blog.
I’m not urging you to be imperfect, what I wanted to deliver on this post is to be practical on posting an entry on your blog to make the most of your blogging time.

This I think is probably the best breakdown of effective blogging that I have ever read. I do a lot of reading and most of it just seems like the same information being fed to readers. This was very original and you used your own experiences as a way to help people! I think that’s the way more people should learn to write posts instead of just speaking to people. Adding personal opinions and thoughts really will make your posts better and these tips that you gave will definitely enhance anyone’s blog!

I love this post and especially love the photo “Perfectionism isn next to… nothing.” Like you said many times before, many of us do not have 24 hours a day to work on our blogs, and for those us in that category, perfectionism is just not an option. It only takes a minute to spell check, and I do think people should do that. In blogger it is one of the few tools available (for a good reason–it does not have to be perfect).
I know some bloggers (well one in particular), who is obsessed with making every post perfect. She doesn’t even sit down and write in to blogger, but instead does all this extra work and first types all of her blog posts into Word (word processor), so that she can run grammar and punctuation check. I guess I should back that up and first say that she said in a blog post that she keeps a notebook on her night stand to write down ideas as they flood into her head LOL! Of course, she does not work and does not sleep more than a few hours at a time, due to her blogging perfectionism!
What’s even more bizarre, is that she does not have google adsense or any ads on her blog! I cannot understand the need to be such a perfectionist, when it comes to blogging!

Guilty. Saw the title and I immediately went to my post that had been lingering in the edit tab for days. The only downside is that when I get it posted inevitably I find flaws. Flaws that weren’t there before because I was sure I had double checked it…triple checked it, re-read it over in my head and even read it aloud but somehow they always slip through. If it’s not the grammar and spelling errors to worry about, it’s the concern of sounding too serious, too dry and bland.

@Aswani, Frank, Vikram – Thank you guys! I always do the best post that I can to make sure that you receive the best updates. Take note, best post but not perfect. LOL!
@John – Thank you for sharing your ideas and appraisal for this post.
Regarding on the girl who is obsessed on blogging. I think, that she just found out what she really likes to do. Imagine, she risk earning day job income just for her blogging madness. And the most shocking part is, she is also risking her sleeping hours just to perfect her blog posts. We should wish her more success to her blog on whatever her goal for that blog is.
@Huy – I hope this post could help you.

@huy – Yes, you guessed it right. Avoid sounding too serious in your posts. let it be simple and striking. No problem in cross-checking it again and again. Small grammatical errors do happen. Don’t worry much !

@ Desta – And I will suggest to love what you are doing. Because if you love what you do, you don’t need to double the energy to do what you need to do.
